  • We have detailed our policy on custom items here http://brickowl.com/help/custom-items

In summary, custom items may only contain official Lego items plus some additional ancillary items like jewellery or keychain loops.
  • Improvements have been made to how the refund form works with regards to making multiple refunds. You can make multiple refunds on an order, each refund is treated separately and the refund amount is added to the amount that has already been refunded. If after making several refunds, the total of the refunds equals the original order total, the order will be cancelled. Therefore, it is possible to create a refund, and then create a second refund to cancel the order.
  • You can now close the status bar that appears at the top of the screen by clicking on it. The status bar is the section that often appears at the top of the screen when you do actions on the website, for example to let you know that your inventory change was successful.
  • Another small change, there is now a little return to top icon that appears on the bottom right of the screen. It will appear when you scroll down, clicking it will make the page jump back to the top.

  • The inventory download file now includes item name, "my weight", weight, "my cost" and "force quote". Excluding name and weight, these fields are also imported when you import the file.
  • There have been changes to the order section of the API. There is a new "set_staus" method and the API can now be used by customers as well to view orders.
  • The catalogue can now be sorted by the date that an item was added to the catalogue. This can be easily accessed from the browse page by clicking on the header of the recently added to the catalogue block.
  • Further to the earlier change, you can also now sort the catalogue by most recently added pictures. This can also be accessed by clicking on the header of the new pictures block.
  • Image cropping - when you upload a new primary image for an item, you will see a preview of the picture, along with cropping handles that will allow you to crop the image. If you move the handles close to the edges of the item in the picture, this will then get submitted and the image will be cropped automatically.
  • Stickered parts can now be created more easily. To create a stickered part, go to the part you want to make a sticker version of, go to the edit tab, and click on the button in the form to create a stickered version. This will pre-fill the item creation form with the relevant information.

Customers from the UK that select IBAN as a payment method at checkout are now recommended to use Transferwise which is a cheaper way of making IBAN payments.
  • There is now a new little block in the sidebar of stores to show which main payment methods are accepted.
  • Today, around 7PM GMT our email provider had some issues, this caused some order related emails to not be sent. It also caused the checkout process to show an error, which may have caused some customers to think their order had not gone through, and attempt to place it a second time.

The original cause should now be resolved, and we have taken steps to stop email issues impacting the checkout experience. Usually we can resend unsent emails, but that is not possible in this case so we will implement a new system to deal with situations like this in the future.

We apologise for the inconvinience caused.
  • For new addresses, there is now a drop down to select the state/region on US/CA addresses. This should help with address label formatting and compatibility with a PayPal addresses going forward.
  • Name sorting has been improved when searching your inventory so it ignores the colour when sorting. The colour sorting mode is still available. An extra step has been added to the start of the checkout process for users that have an unused user specific coupon in a store to allow them to apply it to their cart.

A very small update for today, the catalog can now be sorted by ID number so for example http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-sets/the-hobbit?order=id&dir=asc

Additionally, yesterday, a feedback API was added so you can leave feedback for orders using the API.
  • Brick Owl inventory part out values are now shown on Brickset set detail pages. See http://brickset.com/article/10420/this-week-s-site-updates-(7-march) for more info.
  • The lifetime sales figure on the store dashboard has been adjusted to not include shipping.

Additionally, it was not previously mentioned that several days ago we implemented a feature where customers are reminded about coupons in the checkout process if they have unused coupons in that store.
  • Item types can now be changed on the normal catalog submission form. For example, the game die has now been moved from gear to a part http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-die-64776
  • In your store inventory settings you can now set the default listing condition to new or used. This way, when you list an item from an item page, it will default to either new or used and use the appropriate price history information.
  • An improvement has been made to how the shipping calculation system handles rotating items to make them fit, it now rotates them in more ways than it did before.
  • You can now download your account transactions relating to commission from the bottom of the account page as a CSV.
  • On your profile, there is now a link which you can share so people can view your public wishlists.

A more accessible regional settings panel has been created, it can be accessed by clicking on the little flag on the top right. This is just a basic version for now, it will be improved over time.
  • When messages contain attachments, this is now shown in the messaging system. You can't yet view the attachments through Brick Owl, but it tells you you can view them through your e-mail client.
  • In the payment column in the footer of stores, minimum and maximum order subtotal limits have been shown to reduce confusion to customers when payment methods are not available at checkout. Stores should try to avoid using limits, especially for popular payment method such as credit cards as it can cause confusion for customers and cause them to abandon carts upon finding the payment method is not available.
  • A basic information string has been added to the bottom of the orders page to show you various totals for the list of orders on the screen.

www.wallofbricks.com Have been added as a new affiliate, they can be enabled at www.brickowl.com/mystore/settings/affiliate_settings
  • Users that have certain roles, such as being an application developer, now have these roles shown on their user profile.
  • In your inventory settings http://www.brickowl.com/mystore/inventory/inventory_settings it is now possible to remove the default listing price if you want to set all your prices manually. The price will be set to 99 when you list an item, you can then set the price. This is a placeholder value to deal with the fact that you cannot list an item without a price.

All new stores will be reminded to set their inventory settings when they sign up.
  • When parting out a set, the system now better handles breaking of multiple items that contain the same parts. So for example, before, if you broke two minifigures that both contained the same legs, they would appear as two separate rows in the inventory. Now, they appear as one row, with the quantities added together.
  • It is now again possible to setup variants in inventories when editing the inventory. There are instructions regarding this at the top of the edit inventory page. This should only be used in unusual cases (like with www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-zoo-set-30064/inventory), normal mold variations are still handled automatically.
  • Shared Shipping Methods - It is now possible to mark a shipping method as being shared and provide a description. The shipping methods can then be viewed by others here http://www.brickowl.com/mystore/settings/shipping_methods/shared . Other users can then use that shipping method in their store, after adjusting it. You can mark any of your existing shipping methods as being shared.
  • The total weight of a users cart can now be viewed in the estimate shipping and tax section of the cart. This is a preliminary placement and may be moved/removed at a later point.
  • It is now possible to set a minimum lot average for a store instead of a minimum order. This should only be used sparingly though as it does not provide a good customer experience and may result in less orders.

To coincide with this, when a customer's cart is below either the minimum order or minimum lot average, a block appears below the cart in the sidebar to inform them of this.
  • Quantity has been added as an option on the mass inventory updating page. This can allow you to set all of your inventory to 0 at once if necessary.
  • There is a new option on the order settings screen to choose whether the personal order note will be shown when printing the order details screen.
  • A new option has been added on the shipping methods to indicate if the method should not be automatically selected for customers. This should be used if you have any local collection shipping methods.
  • Separate shipping dimensions can now be entered for items in the catalogue using the catalogue editing form. Shipping dimensions are useful for items like hose, string, or large minifigures where the normal dimensions will differ from the dimensions when packed for shipping.

Shipping dimensions only need to be entered for items that have different normal and shipping dimensions, if no shipping dimensions are provided, the normal dimensions system is used instead.
  • If you provide a shipping quote for a cart that will be combined with an existing order, and you have an order combining fee, the combining fee will now automatically be added to the quote.
  • Starting from the first of September, Inventory Backups (http://www.brickowl.com/mystore/inventory/backups) will be purged on a schedule. Daily backups from the past two weeks will be kept, beyond that only one backup will be kept per week for the next three months, and beyond three months, only one backup per month will be kept. To clarify, these are totally independent from our overall database backups.
  • Between 10:50 AM and 6:30 PM GMT today (September 29th) a problem occurred which prevented Brick Owl from making connections to PayPal and our e-mail service. As a result, customers were not able to place orders using PayPal, and no e-mails were sent out during this time period. This issue has now been resolved, all of these e-mails from that period have been resent.

I am very sorry that this issue has occurred and will work on an action plan to detect and prevent it in the future.
  • The Belgian VAT profile has been updated to no longer remove VAT from shipping costs as VAT does not apply to shipping costs in Belgium.
  • The Belgian VAT profile has now been reverted as per forum discussion. Apologies for the inconvenience.
  • When editing a Minifig head, there is now a button to create the alternate variation if it does not exist. So, for a safety stud head, you can create the recessed solid stud item page. The button will only appear on the uncoloured version of the head.
  • Stores can now add an optional note when responding to a shipping quote request, this note will be shown in the e-mail that is sent to the customer.
  • There is now a button on the set editing page to create a sticker sheet for that set. You just need to enter the design ID of the sticker sheet and it will create the appropriate relationships. This is useful for sets that have multiple sticker sheets and the system has only picked up the first sheet.
  • Tier pricing has now been exposed to the API so you can view and update it on your inventory.
  • On the catalogue contributions page, accessible from your user profile, you can now see your unredeemed catalogue points total. Only you can see your own total.
