Generating an Inventory Report of a Lego set to include the 'Personal Note' field in the headings

Hello,

I have been running a Brick Owl Store since last October.

My question is in regards to the storing of Lego parts into my stock containers after I have parted out the sets (multiples of the same set, initially grouped by colour to match the part out report).

I store my Lego parts in a number of large containers with fifty unique parts stored separately per large container. I use the 'Personal Note' field to record the location of each part (a simple numbering system).

As I do not use a drawer system (I may review this in the future), It would be advantageous to have a report that lists the parts in a set with the 'Personal Note' as one of the heading's that can be sorted from low to high. This would allow me to retrieve each large container and store the parts in my stock order. At the moment, I group the parted out parts on my tables into their respective stock container groups before storing them.

The part out report in Brickowl displays all the information I need but the 'Personal Note' field cannot be sorted.

I consulted Brick Owl support and they informed me that I could submit this as a suggestion to the forum, but I thought that I would see if there are any ideas from other Store Owners before I consider submitting a suggestion.

Thank you in advance.

  • There have been times when being able to sort by Personal Note would have helped so I would support this.
  • +1 for this. I use the drawer system so this would allow me to add parts to my drawers in sequential order.
@Raven Bricks I'm curious about your large containers with 50 lots, doesn't that quickly get untidy and take longer to fish items out? Are the lots individually bagged or boxed? Don't mean to criticise, just interested in other ways of doings things.
    Thanks
  • Hi Captain.M

The lots are individually bagged and it was a short term cheap (but time consuming) solution, while I reviewed the best storage system for my store. The recent posts in regards to storage solutions in this forum have been very useful and I am now converting my storage system based on some of the ideas from those posts (Graham of ENiGMATiC PLASTiC posted some pictures and a description that was very useful)

My original 'Personal Note' field in the Inventory settings suggestion would still useful to allow items to be added to a storage system in sequential order. The work around I have found is to part out a set to my store, then part out the set to a wishlist and raise a quote with my own store. The quote lists all the parts with the 'Personal Note Field' as a separate heading. I save the quote as a reference for physically adding parts to my stock storage and then cancel the order request.
  • You're right there are some great ideas in that thread. I like the homemade shelving holding the compartment trays so they can be easily pulled out. Much better than stacking them.

You're workaround is very clever and simple.... genius! Great work. I love learning stuff like that. Cheers :)
  • We've now changed how the part out form works, so this should now be possible. All part out columns can be sorted once in advanced mode.
  • Sweet 🙂 this place just gets better and better 👍

@Lawrence I tried to part-out in the new advanced mode. The first problem is that the form's width doesn't fit the window and the dreaded horizontal scrolling makes me cringe. Is it possible to introduce a full screen mode? The other problem: I can't return to Normal mode, because: "Price cannot be empty". The empty price is of an alternative item that I don't stock. I had to cancel the process, find a set without alt items which allowed me to switch to Normal, cancel again, then back to parting out the original set. That should be an easy fix.
  • @Pikka Thank you for the feedback, we've disabled the validation errors when switching modes

With the horizontal scrolling, it's not ideal, but I wasn't able to think of a suitable alternative. Full-screen mode is helpful for users with large screens, but does not help those with smaller screens, or if new columns are added. I've made the scrollbar more obvious on non-firefox browsers.
