Is there any general advice for getting started? Am I basically just buying sets to part out at a good price vs part out value? Then slowly build items from there? Is it better to have 100s of each item?
You have to look at more than just the headline figure, though the more expensive the set, the better the part-out ratio usually.
If the set is new, the average part-out value will be distorted by those desperate enough to pay top whack quickly for the new moulds, re-colours and figures. This market is already well-served by those stores with deep pockets.
Specialised items - bat wings is a good example - may command a high price but be stuck in your inventory for years. The same is true for some colours too, though on a different scale.
If you're looking at BO's part-out value, check out BL's too. And vice versa.
You also have to look at part-out time and storage capabilities. A 2,000 piece set could take hours to part out, but 20 of the same 100 piece set might take 30 minutes. You get less variety of items, usually less value but in terms of your time, so much better.

Variety > numbers
Figures > parts
Shipping methods > request a quote
Price > everything
These four things will give your store more chance to be found by people using the wish list feature.
That staggers me. Is that normal?
