Specific postage calcs for sets without boxes

Hi all - I'm new here and still getting to grips with how it all works. I've set up my store and postage options, and I'm really impressed with how the site auto-calculates which options are applicable. However, for sets without boxes specifically, this creates a problem, since the dimensions used to calculate postage are the box dimensions. Hence, postage costs are generally over-estimated. When I'm buying I hate not being able to see postage costs (even an estimate) so I don't just want to set everything to "request a quote" (although I have this enabled on all purchases).

I thought a good solution would be to add an option to indicate whether sets have boxes or not when listing. Then postage for sets without boxes could be calculated based on the parts in each set only (I am making a massive assumption here that BO also auto-calculates postage for parts as well as sets??). Is this possible? Or is there another way around this issue?

Hi and welcome to BO! Yes, shipping is auto calculated for parts too, but like everything in the inventory this only works if weights and dimensions are inputted. If these are missing then BO defaults to Small Parcel shipping (by UK definition I believe). You are correct about the set dimensions being for boxed, but I believe you can set custom dimensions that apply specifically to you. I can't be certain (only doing this from some vague memory!) but under your sell tab there is a default setting of 'Normal'. If you switch this to 'Advanced' you can enter custom dimensions and this will hopefully auto calculate based on those and not the original boxed dimensions. Maybe there's someone out there who has done this and can confirm if it works!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it looks like that only allows you to set a custom weight. It's really the (box) dimnesions which are the factor though.

I would LOVE to see set options include with box/no box dimensions - shipping is far, far cheaper without the box, which I have had customers cheerfully go with.
