PayPal Seller Protection

On reviewing the PayPal agreement following notification of recent changes, I note that anyone who surcharges for the use of PayPal is automatically excluding themselves from PayPal's Seller Protection Scheme. Interesting. That obviously doesn't apply here on BO but a large percentage of sellers on BL do still charge extra for buyers who use PayPal (often illegally). Worth bearing in mind if you sell on both sites.

  • Don't they state that in itself is against their terms?
  • It depends on where you're based. Surcharges are against PayPal's US and UK terms (and plenty more besides) but are allowed in others, Belgium is one, providing it's in accordance with local laws.
  • Against Canadian as well, it just seems like they are saying they are ok with it but there will be consequences.
  • It's also against the German Terms of Paypal. I do not like shopping in shops with extra fees, lot price, etc. I have always the feeling they will also charge the fuel to use the car to the post office. :-)
