Is it possible to show items on sale in a block on your storefront similar to featured items, best selling items etc? I couldn't see a block option for it.

I would +1 that, definitely! (I can't find that either, I don't think we are given the .css or HTML code to invoke that yet).

A featured items section similar to the BO homepage would be very nice.

Generally we would advise using the featured items, so if you have a particular sale item you want to highlight you can mark it as featured
