Would any of the potential uses of this be able to elaborate on the use cases for it? Currently any messages would go to the email address of the store, and notes can be set/viewed on the order/api
We use the API (among other things) to manage our orders - picking, packing etc. Messages linked to orders can contain much-needed info, like requests to remove an item, change shipping to local pickup, requests for refunds and a lot more. Having these messages directly accessible on the orders page would be very helpful.
What @qwertyboy said. Trying to correlate messages with orders by flipping back and forth between applications isn't very efficient. I'm spoiled by BLS Manager that supports Bricklink. The app has everything in one place for an order.

Not all messages, just messages connected to orders.
