Packaging Sale-ability

In your experience, does packaging actually sell? I have some old boxes that I was thinking of selling but didn't know if people actually buy that kind of stuff. Thoughts?

  • I buy them occasionally, if it's one of the classic sets that I'd like to have a box for and in good condition. I recently bought boxes for 6399, 6199, and 445. Shipping charges can be intimidating, and the seller must be careful to pack the inside of the box to prevent cave-ins during shipping.

Anything in the last 5-10 years, though, I probably already have the box...

Thanks for your input! All the boxes are flattened out, but are in very good condition. Do you think they would still be sale-able?

  • @Privet123ABC Yes, absolutely. I keep most (medium + large) boxes myself, flattened whenever possible. One does need to consider the storage space it takes, in many cases it's not worthwhile as you'll need to stock them for a couple of years before they become desired, then what's the cost to ship them? Shipping can cost as much (if not more) as the value of a box, sure buyers will buy one once in a while, but you need to consider the fact that if paid with paypal, you'll pay your fees on the shipping as well... So is it worthwhile on $5 box, probably not, boxes with a value of $10-20 (or more) is more interesting, but you don't know in advance... And then there is availability. How many are for sale? 20 ? then you can wait a long time. 3 ? bigger chance offcourse. So one does need to evaluate things once in a while, maybe check the evolution of each once a year, maybe toss away the ones that are less desired after a while. I rarely keep small boxes, they never tend to rise much.
Whenever I can grab an older box (+10 years) and I decide to 'part', then I do keep the box, sometimes a damaged (old) box sells better then a recent 'like new' box, simply because the desire rised...
  • @robernat - Thanks, that helps a lot!
