What happens if customer selects wrong shipping method?

I am struggling through setting up my shipping methods. What happens if a customer selects an incompatible shipping method? For example, if they choose the USPS priority padded flat rate envelope, but the volume or shape of their order just won't fit inside it, and they need a more expensive method. Is there a way to adjust the shipping charge after the fact?

  • Unfortunately it’s not possible to change the amount of shipping a customer is charged after the order is placed. The best thing to do is make sure you’ve got some margins on the dimensions/weight to account for packaging. You can also test out your shipping methods in your own store by adding items to your cart to ensure only the correct methods are displaying.
