How about setting up an “FAQ” page?

Seems many questions come up repeatedly from new comers.

The site is not particularly intuitive, unless you have experience elsewhere.

  • I would be willing to help develop it or peer review it... I find I'm doing a lot of research and looking at other people's stores to figure out some setup items. To be clear, a lot of this IS intuitive if you've worked on similar sites, but for someone totally new, I can see that being an issue. For my part, my research gets into some of the more esoteric but seemingly-obvious stuff, e.g., how does one ensure - if you're calculating shipping by weight so you can do an "instant" checkout - that the weight also adds some set amount for the actual packaging? (I still haven't cracked that one).

I'd also be willing to help develop or peer review a "store standup procedure" for newbies, since I'm going through that right now myself. I write processes and procedures for a living, so would be more than willing to help the community if this is a validated "want". :-)
  • Also useful for buyers, I have had to help newbies learn how to use BrickOwl - only to find they then purchase elsewhere !
  • If we can put together a good list of questions & answers in this thread, I'm sure Lawrence could consider using it to make an official BrickOwl FAQ.

What would you put in there though? It all seems rather intuitive to me, although I'm probably biased.

Ideally, the buying process would be simple enough that no one feels a need to consult a FAQ... (even if there could be one, if just to confirm what would hopefully be the intuitive assumptions of customers).
  • @Stragus best way would be to add to the faq as the questions get asked. I have to admit I’ve had to offer pretty basic “advice” to some newcomers
  • Pretty basic advice you say... Agreed, I'll start with something then.

#1 How do I find what I need?

There are several ways to find sellers on BrickOwl. You can browse the catalog and the list of sellers offering each item. You may then see what else these sellers have to offer.

From the catalog, you can also add the items to your Catalog cart (link to https://www.brickowl.com/catalog_cart). The catalog cart allows to automatically find the best combination of sellers to purchase the parts. These orders will be shipped separately by the different stores, and will each have their own shipping cost.

You can add desired items to Wishlists (link to https://www.brickowl.com/wishlist). Wishlists can be used to find combination of stores providing the items. Wishlists are also useful to quickly list everything you may be interested in when browsing any particular store.

#2 What payment methods are accepted?

Each BrickOwl store may accept a different list of payment methods. PayPal is very common and allows paying with any credit card, bank account or existing PayPal balance. You do not require a PayPal account to pay with Paypal, you can simply click on "Pay with a credit or Visa Debit card" instead when asked to log into Paypal.

#3 How much does shipping cost?

Each BrickOwl store may have its own shipping methods, with shipping rates that vary based on destination, weight and volume. You can see your current shipping rate while filling up a cart in a store, or you may consult their Delivery page for details (in the footer of a page while in a store).

Okay, enough for me today. :)
  • Wow, you jump right in there... awesome, Stragus!!
