Computer generated images versus real photographs?

Is there any preference regarding computer generated images versus photographs of real world parts? I.e., Should I bother uploading a real world photograph (taken by myself) if a computer generated image is already in place?

Piggybacking on @nizqam 's question. You had mentioned being able to use BrickSet's minifigure pictures. Is that something that will come over all at once or something as we are updating the catalog will need to incorporate?
