What exactly is an "owl sold"?

I see in the statistical on this site it says 910 owls sold. What exactly does this mean!?

I believe it's just that! Any time an owl minifigure is sold (I assume it makes no difference what colour or whether decorated or not) it gets added to the counts list. I think it's a bit of fun and there are forum threads going further back where stores in the early days of the site would proudly announce such a sale!
