API Idea - submit product images

Hi admin/everyone,

I have an idea for a smartphone app I'd be willing to build that could potentially help getting missing product images submitted faster as an optional alternative to using the web interface.
Basically, my app would allow you to take a photo of the missing item using your iPhone/Windows phone (potentially Android phone as well), crop the image using pinch to zoom, select the item from a list and submit it to BrickOwl for the catalog.

The app isn't hard to build (I already have something similar I built for a different industry for both iOS and Windows Phone), but I'd need a couple of new API calls to do this:

1. The ability to submit the image through an API http post.
2. (optional, but would make it easier) - the ability to download a list of items that are currently missing the primary image.

What do you (especially admin) think of this idea? For those who don't have professional camera/lights set up, it would provide an easy and quick way to help contribute.

Richard.

  • Amazing idea. I'll try to get the api calls made up in the next few weeks. That would remove a lot of the steps for people making it much easier.
  • Great!
I already have the iPhone app working as far as I can get it (obviously without the API calls in there), so I should be able to get the app finalized pretty quickly.

Also, Lawrence - did you see the the email I sent earlier in the week to the 'hello at brickowl' account regarding a bigger app I want to build for Brickowl (it has a link to a screencast in it)? I assumed you've had a very busy week (!) and hadn't got to it yet, but I wanted to be sure you'd seen it as it's the only email address I have to try and contact you.

    Thanks.
  • Goodness, I thought you'd take a while ill get working on it soon then.

I replied, check junk? if you don't have it ill resend

I have the advantage of having done this before for a my real job, so I can reuse a lot of existing code :D

Hmm - I'm not seeing the reply including in my spam bin. Any chance you could resent it to me please? Thanks.
