Importing of LDraw .DAT files

For some reason, I can't seem to save prebuilt models to the .ldr format. I grabbed some custom builds off the internet, and they're all in .dat format. Will there be any import support for .dat files in the future so building a part list will be a little easier?

LDraw .dat files aren't models, they are single parts. They describe the geometry of a part, often referencing other .dat files (for rings, holes, planes, etc.).

Thank you for your answer. So is there a way to convert it to an LDR file? Or am I stuck just trying to find each individual part

Perhaps you could give examples of off the internet that are supposed to be builds but the download is a .dat file.
