There is an option in the store settings/store quality that says "Is there a possibility your parts may smell of smoke?" Yes/No
This is both for me. I have both used and new pieces/sets. I store my new parts/sets in a separate location so I do not contaminate the new ones from the old ones. There is zero chance for my new items to smell like smoke. However, my used parts could have come from a residence who did smoke.
Is there a way to change this to differentiate the smell from new/used? Or maybe there is and I am just clueless?
Thank you,
Chris

I used to be a smoker during my "Dark Ages" and hate the smoke smell so I try not to buy smoky items. This will definitely get explained on my store page.
Thanks,
Chris
I may be not the norm, but I wouldn't even get to your home page
Now I think i'm correct in saying you can have more than 1 store here???
If so how about having 2 stores? One new and the other used.
Just a thought... Graham
My new ones will not smell because I do not smoke.
To me the statement "may contain smoke" means even my new ones might smell because I smoke, and that is not the case.
So for people that buy and then sell used parts, do they give out a questionnaire to their source and ask if they smoke or used to smoke around the Lego products? To me anyone who sells used parts should say "Yes" to the may smell like smoke option.
Another selection may also be "Do you have pets?". I am personally not allergic to anything but maybe a buyer is allergic to dogs or cats and when buying used parts they should be warned. Again, by default I think used parts should say "yes" to this statement.
Chris
The future for my store is not looking bright, and I do not need any more reasons stacking up against me making me think this was a bad idea.
For Sellers
Used parts may need to be washed as all Lego parts for sale should be clean. No Lego part bought at Brick Owl should ever arrive sticky or dirty. All Lego items sold on Brick Owl should not be so damaged that they loose their function and can no longer fit together with other Lego parts. When storing any condition of Lego you are advised to keep items as dust free as possible and away from strong odours.
It would therefore only be "yes" if you or anyone in the house/shop smoked.
Now regarding pets, surely no-one would let pets near their LEGO, would they? Cat hair or worse would count as "dirty" in my book!!!
Then there is general cleanliness - personally I use hand sanitiser before picking orders and when parting sets... maybe extreme but I like to be sure I don't end up putting any finger marks etc!
Everyone should already assume if you have used parts they may smell like smoke; this should be inferred by the common person. Plus with BrickOwl's terms with cleaning used Lego products, yes the smoke smell comes out but not always 100% gone.
Why not change it from "May contain smoke?" to "Do you smoke?"
This way, people know if you smoke, your parts including your new ones may contain smoke because even if you wash your Lego products, you may re-contaminate the bricks/sets. Plus your package may smell of smoke upon delivery.
As a used parts seller who cleans used product and does not smoke, my package will not smell and 99% of my products would not smell due to washing.
I hope this change in wording will be acceptable to @Admin and the BrickOwl community.
Sound Off,
Chris
I say, if your conscience is clear with the choice you made for your store, that should be the end of it.
To try and change a guideline into all encompassing defined rule always leaves some people out and can be endless in possibilities to consider. Just because a person smokes does not mean the parts smell of smoke.
I heat with a wood fire in the winter and a back draft may come in and the house gets smoky, or I burnt some toast last week. What kind of smoke are we talking of? Endless..
My main point, vague and unknown reasons should not be included in the choosing of the option, you should know your inventory, hire a smell checker if you need to, and if you are dishonest it will come out in the end.

I wonder..., why make (potential) buyers aware off this issue right away? Think if you put "may contain smoke residue (or whatever) it puts off buyers right away....!
We only sell used bricks, (some from new parted out sets, some from lots bought elsewhere).
Some items are made even before we were born, there is no way in telling where they were before we got a hold off them...,
We only list items that are in good condition, (we would be happy to buy) (so nicotine white is not listed, neither are bitemarks etc). We do not clean/wash items before sale!
All in all it is 2nd hand, and how do you smell smoke on a individual brick?
Besides, smoke might be considered "dirty", but children's mouths, (etc) are not? Come on...,
Maybe don't make the distinction at home page but at condition level... (new = no smoke, used as new = 99% clean. used good = 85% clean etc....?)
"New"
"Used - Good" - 99% smoke free
"Used - Acceptable" - 85% smoke free
Random question though:
When syncing BL everything that is marked used becomes "used - acceptable" so if I change my parts to "Used - good" and sync my inventory, will everything go back to the acceptable condition?
this discussion, will always exist, Smoke Smell , Pat hair, and some other smells and hair how don't belong to the order
Who has smoked? and how has some pets, Good luck, iám not a farmer
