What does this actually mean?

I realized I didn't have collect in person as a shipping method. Went to add it and read this warning, I have no idea what it means!


Local collection:

This can be used to indicate if the shipping method is for local collection, ... OK get that

or has some criteria meaning most people shouldn't use this shipping method. ... Why not?

This will stop it being automatically selected or shown in the catalog. ?????

This should only be used rarely. ... Why?

Essentially the warning is to indicate that local collection should only be used for local collection, and the local collection shipping method will not be selected automatically, and will not be shown in the catalogue, because it will not be used by most customers, so it wouldn't be correct to show a free shipping method as the cheapest.
