checkout/shipping method failure

I've set my shipping method per price band. Very easy and worked fine until now. Suddenly it doesn't work any more (shipping methods are enabled, and I didn't change anything to my shipping methods since July 12). Buyer gets the following message: "Unfortunately this store does not have any available shipping methods set up that apply to your order. You may want to try contacting them". My shipping methods ARE enabled and DO apply to his order. What happens? and what can I do?
