The transfos provided with the 4548 (or lose ones) are strong enough to work with 240V (might heat up slightly more, but as with any transfo, always better to plug out when not in use, as they also keep 'consuming' regardless whether there is a device attached or not, like a cell phone charger).
If you feel unsecure about the fact the continental types are 230V and UK has 240V (should you use an outlet adaptor), then you can also simply buy a transfo at an electronic or hardware shop. You need a 240VAC->10~12VAC (yes, AC, not DC) ~7VA transfo, the only thing you need to check is the plug that goes into the speed regulator, but many kits come with different plugs these days. The one you need has an inner hole of 2mm and an outer core of 5.5mm.
So, you're not strictly limited to find and buy this kit (or it subparts) in UK, plenty of options once you have the speed regulator and wire, the rest can be 'solved' in different ways ;-)
@vivienne50 the 4548 kit is composed of 3 items The speed regulator The wire The transfo
You need all 3 to power a 9V traintrack
And you can buy these items either as 'kit' (4548) or seperatly.
I've submitted the inventory for the 4548 kit, once Admin @Lawrence approves the inventory, you'll have a better view of the content of the kit.
The universal part of the kit are the speed regulator and wire, the transfos differ from region to region, but as I said whether you use a UK one or Continental type, it won't make a difference (as long as you have an outlet adaptor) or you can buy a lose transfo in a hardware store (but you still need to buy speed regulator and wire then).
Comments
The regulator part (and rail connecting wire) is equal everywhere

only the transfo itself differs
this one is for the UK (I just filed a name change)

Now, you can easely buy a 'EU continental' 4548 kit (different outlet plugs) and use an outlet adaptor, example:

something like this would do for instance:
