Mini-build inconsistencies

Is there any reason why some mini-builds like these:

http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-minifig-food-turkey-with-legs-complete-33048
http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-eagle
http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dragon-complete-assembly-with-red-wings

are included in normal categories whereas others like these:

http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-crocodile

are dumped in the mini-build categories?

If this is simply a case of historical inconsistency I'm happy to try and tidy things up, but in the above examples, should those from the top be moved to the bottom or vice versa?

  • Essentially historical inconsistency, fixing it would involve changing the item type of existing items. I don't you have a plan for this as it would break various synchronisation things. It's on my list though.

    @Hoddie
    It's historical...
Remember that BO started by 'importing' data from other sites, if these other databases used different categories, then obviously they have been sorted under them. For minibuilds *after* the start of BO, admin requested them to be placed in the 'minibuild' section, which is a nice regroupement for all of such items here on BO. I think Admin would like to have them moved to the minibuild section in the long run, so you can indeed file changes for them. Give it a shot on a couple of them and you'll know fast enough whether he agrees with your changes or not ;-)
  • Please don't file item type change requests for them, I'll deal with them all together when I decide how
  • @Lawrence
If I can make a suggestion then: Divide minibuilds in subsections
-Animals (oftenly in 2 or more pieces): sharks, crocodiles, Fluffy, Dewback, Basilisk, Cows, Wargs, Dragons, Tauntaun, etc
-Wheels assemblies: probably the biggest section
-Minifigs and accessories: special figs like Lord Business and Mr freeze but also buckets with handles, wheelbarrels, lightsabers, etc.
-partassemblies: hinge bricks, hinge plates, turntables, etc.
-vehicle related: complete assemblies like the cars series (that would be nice), but also train buffers, motorcycles and such
-Stickered assemblies: not that many at this point, but it would be great to extend it to gain the edge over other websites.
-unclassified: all the rest, untill there is a need to split more (but 'most' will go in previous sections anyway).

Hope this gives a few ideas ;-)
  • Oh, and I don't think it would mess up any synchronisation as BS searches for matching ID's , as long those are there, I don't think any item would fail to sync, regardless of the section. @Stragus would need to confirm though...
  • @RobErNat When a lookup fails for a part or a minifig, it falls back on trying to look up a Minibuild. That shouldn't be a problem.
