No bulk buyers on BrickOwl?

I've had a fair number of orders here -- generally happy with the volume. But something that I've noticed is that I rarely get any orders for bulk parts. I have some items where I have several hundred at very low prices. These sell regularly on the other site, but rarely here.

Are there many fewer bulk buyers? Is it because there are fewer bulk sellers?

So: here's an example: I just listed 2000 minifigure hands in Medium Stone Gray, in bulk packs of 500, for 22 cents. That's like 75% off the average sale price for that part, and they can easily be purchased here and then sold on the other site for 50 cents each (over time, of course).

Would that lot ever sell here?

  • I buy on BrickOwl and it's rare that I don't empty out lots when placing orders. :)

Since BrickOwl is easier to use than the alternatives, it attracts a higher proportion of customers who aren't veterans of online Lego purchases.
  • Do you happen to need 2000 gray minifig hands? ;)
  • We didn't use to see any bulk buyers but they have started to show up this past couple months (and it wasn't @Stragus)
I am not sure about the demands for gray hands though ;)
  • @monochrome I just had some ideas about creepy post-modern sculptures using 2000 minifig hands... I'll pass for now though. :)
  • Rarely does here and I remember seeing German Circus Bulk Shop here had very few orders so he must had quit here and does very well in BL. Most buyers here are looking for replacement parts for their missing set pieces. Only few make big orders for their projects.
  • From what I've seen, there most definitely are customers buying in large bulk, but obviously it depends what parts they are interested in. More specialist things like just hands won't do as well here.
  • I'd be happy to browse around for bulk (within my personal goals), but no tools to manage such 'after' purchase, so I'm patiently awaiting Stragus before I would even think of getting into such.
@monochrome: advise (and you should know that from our recent transaction): EU buyers are less likely to buy such bulk with your current settings, as it automaticly leads to 'charges' when importing, so it becomes less favorable (VAT+import+handling), finetune on EU's import limitations, prepacked bulk within those limitations (seperate lot's) might trigger some extra purchases ;-)
Cheers (and PM me btw), Eric
  • Well, all 2000 just sold to someone on the other site.

Curious about your comments, Eric ... PMing....

  • Totally different demographic here. I see the same thing. I do get bulk orders here, but a majority of the sales are higher lot orders with one or two of each lot.
