I would really like to see an option to show the BOID on the Order screen. I am considering labelling my storage with BOIDs but will not do this, if I cannot see the BOID when picking the order.
BOIDs don't seem convenient for sorting, these are long and variable length codes where just 3-4 characters would be enough. Have you considered using your own system and putting the location into Remarks/Personal Notes?
Still, someone recently needed to copy BLIDs or BLnames into Remarks, also for sorting purposes, so you aren't alone. Perhaps I should add a BrickSync option to store BLID/BOID/Blname in there after all...
We are testing with using remarks at the moment. However it seems a very long process to part out a set (using BL) and adding your remarks to each item as you go. However what I really need, is probably identification. With so many variants of parts and similar looking parts, I want to label bags with both the Bricklink part number and the BOID to make absolutely sure we pick the right part.
That's another advantage of using a custom sorting system. Over here, I make sure there are never two similar parts in the same drawer (each in separate bags), ensuring no confusion is possible.
Adding remarks using BrickStore seemed rather convenient, you can use the BrickSync sort SomeFile.bsx command to copy existing remarks for all matching lots, to combine with existing inventory (I actually use custom software for parting out but it's not yet ready to go public).
ok, I think I understand what you are saying. For instance, if I take a drawer from my storage and add the drawer number to each lot that appears in it, using Brickstock, then once I have listed some more item, I can use sort function to copy matching lots. But how does it identify a match? Lets say I keep all my 2x4 bricks in the same drawer no matter what the colour and then I list a brand new colour that I hadn't had before, will the sort function help?
To copy remarks, the sort command requires matching ID, color and condition.
But putting all the colors in the same drawer is also not something I would personally recommend... Do you ever get confused between colors such as Metallic Silver and Flat Silver?
Yes sometimes we will get the colours wrong, but I label the bags that have similar colours. Our drawer system has large drawers so many items have to share a drawer.
So when you have a new item that you haven't had before, do you first find an empty drawer and then put the remarks against it?
Technically, the part out software suggests a drawer where there's room, also ensuring similar parts and colors don't end up in the same drawer... but the same process can be done manually.
Overall, it works fine here. Having thousands of drawers with just one part&color each would be best, but we don't have room for that.
