Changing "ship to" address to go around home country

Per our shipping methods, there are countries we don't sell products too. One of them is Korea. We recently received an order from this country. I know this because Stripe told us the card used origin was Korea. I don't know if the USA address provided was a shipping center or one where this person works at currently. I don't know.

What I would like to know is if there are any safeguards in place, or could any be created, that if we do not want to do business with a specific country, it be stopped?

Thank you,
Chris

  • You can do so by limiting the countries you ship to if I understand what you're asking.
  • I think he's suggesting that he doesn't want to do business with anyone in South Korea, even if they intend to use a shipping centre (a business that will accept mail on your behalf and forward it on) in another country. The only way I can think of would be to extend the restriction to the invoice address as well as the shipping address, though this would be easily bypassed.
  • I don't think that would necessarily have the intended effect in all cases. There are a lot of folks living in the US on a non permanent basis that have a foreign billing address for their CC (a good chunk of the population where I live and myself was in this situation a while back).
  • I've had a good number of orders from countries I don't ship to - the IP address gives it away.

However (I believe) as long as the shipping address is confirmed, and shown on PayPal as such, even if it is a shipping center - you are covered with delivery confirmation.

That's partly why folks use these services to get around the "don't ship to"

I've not had a single issue so far with any of these customers...
  • If you wanted to block customers in a certain country rather than just the ship to address - they would need to be blocked by IP address - but there's a work around that anyway :)
