On several occasions I have received messages from customers - for different reasons where they used contact member rather than contact via the order.
First time I couldn't find the order, and was unable to find it by user name. So sent message to ask if they had in fact placed an order - which sounded daft as they had!
Now when it happens I have to send a reply message for order number - it would be very helpful being to able search by user name.
