Picking lot's from other orders, while picking an order

It's probably a long shot, and most likely a burdon to program for Admin, not sure of the processing resources to retrieve such data, but at least posting a suggestion costs nothing ;-)
I was wondering wether it would be possible to insert lot's from other orders (paid status) into a picking list of a printed order, based on same remarks field.
So if in a printed order there is a lot in my 'red box 2' (e.g. for remarks field) and another paid order has also a lot from my 'red box 2' (exact same remarks field), it would show up either right beneath that lot, preferably in a very clear defined box (smaller one and accentueted by a color for example) OR all those lot's would show up on bottom of the printed order.

I do understand this might lead to errors, reason *if* such would be possible, it would need to be very clear it's for another order, and the activation should be optional offcourse (seller choses to implement or not)

This would save a lot of picking time by avoiding to have to open the same box a few hours later to pick another order.

  • I tend to pick 3 orders at once but only if they're 1 page orders.
I have 9 small orders to pick at the moment, so I'll have a look though and try and pick orders that are similar.
This is partly due to some of my storage being boxes on boxes!
Was waiting to reach 100000 parts to see what storage I needed. Now I don't have the time to build the storage unit!!
  • well, I usually print several orders at the same time and put them on a pile and try to pick parts from other orders, but it's burdon having to look all the time at other pages. And on larger orders with 2 or 3 pages or more (printed at 40-50% size) it's nearly impossible to look at other orders at the same time. That's why I posted the idea ;-)

My storage is decent and flexible, there are never more then 2 boxes on top of one another so that's ok, but I will be using my drawers storage in future (now it's filled with my own stuff) in stead, just like you I need to find the time to switch and first my playroom needs to be repainted, together with finishing up a new storage in the crawling area under the roof (need to finish the plastering and then polish everything before I can paint) where l can store stuff for 'later' (sets mainly).
I do recommmend stackable drawers though with that many parts as you have listed (I have less then half) :P
  • @Markyd7 These stacked boxes seem terribly unpractical! :) You should look into large drawers, that will make it much easier to reach stuff at the bottom.

@RobErNat I'm not sure that feature should come from BO, but merging pick lists is something that one can implement. In fact, we have even tried something very similar here. Frankly, the result was inconclusive... Picking might be faster but you end up double checking everything to avoid mixing orders.
  • @stragus
I doublecheck most orders anyway, so wouldn't be much of a problem ;-)

Yep that's the kind of drawers I was thinking about for Markyd7, quite handy storage system :-)
  • Haha yes not the best way! It's a good workout though!
I've built a smaller unit for my kids that works well using my storage boxes.
If I get the fit tight enough I can slide the box out about 80% with it staying.

I've mentioned merging picking lists before. Would be a nice option.
I always double check at the end of picking.
  • We've downloaded orders into excel, sorted them, and then made our own combined pick list. I guess it depends on size/amount of orders, I found it didn't save much time for us.
  • If you guys encounter multiple orders at the same time, an investment in a drawer like storage will save so much time, energy and costs...... :)
