Main picture quality is dropping

I notice that there are some pretty awful pictures appearing in the catalog esp with minifigs.

In the beginning you (@Admin) set a "policy" of certain attributes to maintain a cohesive "look" to BrickOwl

1) Please consider rejecting images that don't meet those criteria
2) Please allow new primary images submitted as replacements

It would be nice to see all images of the quality set by BrickSet. This is pretty easy to achieve - delete the background (after you have an "in focus" nicely lit item, no shadows, no hotspots)

Photoshop is pretty common these days, if not available to all there are many free photo editors available.

OR allow custom images!!

Thank You

  • If you want to submit pictures that are of superior quality to existing images, they will happily be approved, there is even a comment to this effect on the edit page.
  • I think I would be in favor of population over quality at this point. I'd rather start with a crummy image than no image. At least I know what the item is. As time goes on, those images will eventually get replaced with better ones. This is especially true of anything over, say, 5 years old that may be a little harder to source new.
  • Agreed Dags. I've been using my iPad to take photos as it's a lot quicker. I just don't have the time to use my decent camera.

I have a bit of a problem with the colours medium stone and dark stone, tan and dark tan. There's a lot of different shades in the photos. So when picking I often pick the wrong one.
I know I should read the description but I think my brain takes a visual shortcut sometimes.

This can probably be corrected in Photoshop quickly, when I get the time I'll give it a try with a sample of images.
  • A huge undertaking would involve grabbing the RGB/HSB/CMYK from the color swatches (http://www.brickowl.com/colors) and recoloring the part images to match. Easier would be to read the color description. :-P
  • I agree with Marky and Brian, quantity over quality at this point. You can always go back and update pictures.
  • Dags, I do try and read the description! I think I'm a visual learner so this is probably why I look at the picture. :-)
I was thinking of choosing one image and then using 'match colour' to change the colours of the other images to match it. If it does work it should be possible to automate it in Photoshop saving time.
  • I'm really not a fan of images where the colours have been changed as they usually look wrong. If I can't tell the difference, I don't have a problem with it.
