Quote messages stay with quote only

Got an order yesterday on a cart that was at least 5 weeks old. The original cart submitted for a quote if my memory is correct was over $100. I quoted a price--who knows what now. The price of the quote included insurance as indicated in one of the messages attached to the quote. The thing is, the buyer emptied their cart to only $17 worth of merchandise before they placed the order, and then instead of choosing the quote they chose my first class international shipping method instead ( makes sense ). So since the quote was not what they used for shipping, it would be nice if the messages with the quote were not included with the order, if that is not what they choose for shipping at checkout.
Does this make sense? Not a big deal at the moment, as I don't think in this case the buyer is trying to get free insurance or anything else out of me, but it has the potential to be a big problem, and give certain buyers leverage to go back and say--your messages say it is going to be insured--or shipped express, or whatever.

  • Could you expand on what you mean when you say the messages are included with the order?
  • See the pic. He chose shipping by IFC instead of going with the quote, but the 4 related messages have to do with the quote.

Oh, the messages show up because they relate to the same cart. I don't think there's really a way around that, I'm sure you can explain the situation if they're confused.
  • Yes, and like I said, in this case I don't think it will be a problem. But I do think that having some way to reference a quote after a cart is turned into an order would be something to consider for the future. Just being able to point the buyer to a place that shows the quote was for $x but you chose IFC which was for $x. At this point I can tell my buyers that the quote was for more, but I can't prove it to them as all this information disappears when they place an order.
    Just something to consider.

  • Ah, if they used your quote, then the shipping method would be request a quote, if not, it will just be whatever shipping method they picked.
