Please clarify "Prevent auto selection" option in shipping method

edited August 2014 in Brick Owl Vote Up0Vote Down
Button = "Prevent auto selection"

Text reads: -

"This can be used to indicate if the shipping method is for local collection, or has some criteria meaning most people shouldn't use this shipping method. This will stop it being automatically selected."

I comprehend the words but not the meaning or function thereof - maybe dense (me) - however cheers G

  • This is to be used if you have a shipping method that you want to only be selected on purpose by the buyer, not auto selected. If you had "Local collection", you would only want a buyer who has deliberately selected it, not the system default it in because it is the cheapest method.
  • OK, that clarifies it ... but still the method is shown to the buyer ... who will immediately select it because it says "free shipping".

    I disabled my local pickup because people from everywhere were selecting it and then came to the conclusion later on that actual pickup would cost them more than sending it out.
  • OK - but what is "auto selection" ? and how does it "happen"?

    Thanks G
  • Unless the shipping method is flagged not to allow it, BrickOwl will automatically select the cheapest shipping option.
  • That I did not know - thank you...

    @Admin Wouldn't it be better for nothing to be auto-selected ? - The customer would then have to select a method before continuing :: esp. when there maybe 2/3 options available (i.e. First Class, Priority and Priority Express)

    Or should I then disable auto-select on all methods to achieve this?

    Thanks
  • The customer can still choose, it just defaults to the cheapest. Selecting the option on all methods would cause side effects.
