Default Shipping Method

I added a local pickup option to my shipping methods, and now the system defaults to that in the shopping cart and in the price lists on catalog search results. Is there any way to mark First Class Mail the default shipping method? I'd rather not annoy buyers who think I'm offering free shipping when that's really just for the few folks who live around here.

    This happened to me. I think it was a behind the scenes change with BO.
    I had free local delivery as an option for a very long time and no issues with it. My last FIVE orders all selected free local delivery. I was not travailing around the USA for $10 [-X

    Unfortunately, I had to stop offering it as an option to buyers due to the confusion and hassle of making additional payments for shipping.

    Yes... The last created payment or shipping method always appears on top and there is no way to reorder them.

    Perhaps they could just be sorted by their last modification time? That should be quick to implement.

    The system auto selects the cheapest shipping method. There isn't really a solution to this with the current system other than not offering the shipping method.

    I suppose a solution would be to flag the shipping method as having some restriction that the user has to decide about, and therefore it should never be automatically used or shown in the catalogue etc as it is misleading.

    Maybe make the method available only to buyers in a range of post codes?

    The smallest region I can select is the United States.

    That was not directed at you @Loremonger. I was just suggesting that restricting based on address might be optimal if it could somehow be implemented.

    It isn't ideal but you could add a text message to your US postal rates that says something like "if you prefer to collect your order in person, please select 'Quote Request' and then send a brief message so I can set the postage rate to $0.00" - this message would show whenever a buyer selects one of those rates.

    Looks like I didn't update this thread, this was dealt with by the local collection option in the shipping methods screen.
