Inventory size for sales

This is a question for store's that are bigger than mine (ie seems like everyone).

Can you say if there is an amount your inventor needs to be before you start to see weekly sales (or daily sales)?
I have heard your inventory needs to be at least 10,000 before sale start to pick up. I have also heard that number needs to be 30,000 or more. I'm just looking for some insight from veterans out there.
Thanks
David

  • Hi David,
Things are starting to pick up for me after a pretty slow summer.
My inventory is around 100,000 items, and I've been averaging 2-3 sales a day.
As far as how big your inventory needs to be, well with a small store as well as a big one, it is going to depend more on what you have then how much you have.

  • If that helps, at around 70000 parts, I get about slightly more than one order per day on BrickOwl. The feedback is low though (I didn't use any external boost).
  • With roughly 20k inventory I had 21 BrickOwl orders in June. Once I hit 10k things picked up. But variety helps, both number of lots and quantity within lots. A few PaB cups worth of jewels might get you to 10k items, but it will net you very little orders. :-D

  • My store is about 37K items with a high variety of new and used items. I got 76 orders last month.
I'm now 10 months on BO and had 663 orders. So I am very happy with these figures.

  • Thank you all guys. First of all, I love to hear the success stories. It give me even more goals to work towards. At the moment, I have to scrape any extra $$$ to buy sets when I find them on sale so the inventory growth is slow. My initial goal was 10,000 by the first of August. I have some work to do to verify all the parts I have in my set up before I add more parts but I have 2,600 parts waiting to be parted out. Only 4,000 more to go before I hit my first goal.

PS - if anyone has a Mejier near them, I saw on reddit they were having a 25% - 50% off sale today. I went to mine and picked up a couple of good sets. I stopped by Target, but $1.00 off is not a sale (in my opinion). Amazon has LEGO Movie 70808 Super Cycle Chase for $36 (28% off)(http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GSPFDV2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=d000001-20).
