alternate parts

Hi
Why is it needed to have in new sets (set inventories) alternate parts that are no longer exist?
This is going to cause confusion! :-S

    They are from the lego inventories, it is exacerbated where a lego item number is shared by multiple mold variations so its not possible to know from the lego inventory alone which variation will be present.
