Inventory Gremlins

I'm starting to get orders for parts I don't have. I'm also being told I have duplicate lots only to be shown one lot when using that filter. Currently I have only 13 dark red 4460 slopes. Yet when I go to buy, I see that I have 2 entries for such things. I changed the quantity of this lot the other day down to 13 to reflect a sale over there. But now I got an order for 28 of them and 8 were remaining.

Anybody else experiencing this or have a solution that I'm not considering?

  • How do you define/upload/update your inventory? What does the work flow look like?

It's probably a good idea to fetch regular backups of the whole inventory (and orders), to track anything suspicious.
  • When I have an order here, I manually update inventory over there. Same vice versa. When I do large uploads, I do a brickstore upload/update. Everything uses external lot IDs. Since I only have 13 open carts at the moment, I'm considering a hard refresh on my inventory before things get really out of hand.

  • Then I think human error is very, very likely.

I'll have some software to synchronize between both marketplaces out shortly... I'm hoping within a week or so (or if you are a programmer, I could send you some pre-alpha code, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise).
  • I'm having really good results from brickpacker.com. He also recently lowered his prices to 1% of the order total.

I've found the Brick Owl inventory system to be ... problematic at best. A lot of it has to to with user interface, which isn't great. For example, when I unchecked the For Sale box on an item, I couldn't figure out why it was still appearing in my store, only to find out that I had it double-listed, which I didn't see because everything is so spread out.

Anyway, I still have action items for Items Missing Names, but there's nothing there because I already added names to the catalog. Not sure why I'm still seeing the link. If you are filtering by duplicate lots and not seeing both lots, chances are you already addressed it. Check your storefront to verify.
  • What does the history on that lot show?
I had one the other day, I was in the middle of doing a import update of my entire BL inventory since I had just uploaded some sets. I submitted it, but in the meantime, I had a sale on BO.
This caused me to add quantity to the lots in that order.
    Example. 8 items in lot
Buyer buys 8 so 0 left.
Update from BL takes it back to 8
When I went to adjust my inventory on BL, I noticed that the quantity of both lots sold were double on BO what they were on BL. Took me a bit to figure out what I had done, and only solved it when Admin pointed out the lot history to me.
It's a bit tricky at times selling on both sites.

  • Good call Katie. Apparently a brand new lot was created with my bsx update, even though I had external lot ID's selected. The question is, where is that phantom lot of the same part?

Enoch, storefront shows double for ALL 4460. I can't see that in my inventory editing. Looks like a system glitch?

  • Not sure the difference, but once I clicked show history, THEN the second dark red lot showed up. I deleted a few single lots, the remaining lots still showed double in my store front. Then I deleted ALL lots of 4460 in my inventory.

    There, I fixed it.

    :-D

  • Well, that will certainly keep anyone from over-ordering.

I think of this like the kind of transmission in a car.

My mother would not have an easy time driving a standard car if she could manage it.

My mother in law is from Finland and only knows standard, she is really nervous thinking of trying the automatic transmission out.

Both kinds work fine once you know the tricks and procedures for the fewest steps.

I am going to liken OWL to my car's CVT transmission though thinking about it. Can set your positions for manual changes or put it on auto. As the system finds the the sweet RPM spot and just keeps accelerating over time. :)
