Question about shipping method changed for an order

I just got an order this morning that I don't know how to handle.

First of all, it came in 2 parts - the buyer added a 2nd order with combined shipping. That's fine, no problem. I just wanted to mention that.

But secondly, the primary order indicates the buyer changed the shipping method from Priority Mail to Ground (United States - this is expedited vs standard). It still looks like that shipping fee was calculated for expedited. Am I supposed to be making a refund? How does this work?

Thirdly, I have it set up to charge a $0.15 order-combining fee, but that doesn't appear to have been charged. The 2nd order only has the part value with $0 shipping or fees. (Not an enormous deal in this specific circumstance, but I have that in place to protect myself from a situation where a buyer makes multiple tiny additions, each one costing me a fixed fee from my payment processor that exceeds what they bought)

If the customer downgrades the shipping to a cheaper option, the combining fee isnt charged, as essentially they've paid it as part of the lost money on the shipping downgrade. As far as the customer sees, at checkout they will have chosen a specific shipping method at a specific cost ($0) so they wouldn't necessarily expect any refund.
  • Thanks - so did that downgrade happen at the time of the 2nd add-on order? Or was that a separate thing that they did to the original order?

I'm just wondering if they didn't realize and still expect it to be shipped expedited
  • That would be based on the shipping method they chose when they added the second order. You can also contact the buyer to confirm.
