Require Buyer's Telephone Number for Large Orders

For each payment option, I would like to have the ability to require buyers to provide me their telephone number on orders above a certain amount. I am thinking to have a setting box where the seller selects the amount above which telephone numbers are required. When an order above that amount is placed, the buyer will be prompted by the BO system to provide their telephone number for the order to go through. Assuming they have not already provided their telephone number to BO when they registered.

Package recipient telephone numbers are often required or requested by the Post Office and/or shipping insurers on certain shipping methods (e.g. Express Mail, Registered Mail) or packages insured above $250.00. Even when not required, it is still safer and highly recommended to provide such telephone numbers. In addition, US customs forms are now requiring or requesting package recipient telephone numbers as well.

P.S. If BO does not already do so, it might be easier to simply require all BO members to provide a daytime telephone number when they register for this site (and have that number noted on each order). If so, BO should remind them that this number should be one where they can be reached by their mail carriers for package delivery reasons.

  • I thought it was required on sign-up. At least I remember inputting it and the order I've gotten so far had a phone number attached.

  • It's optional, will consider making required, or required for certain ship methods.
  • Yes, I gave my phone number too when I signed up here. But I don't recall if it was a required field. Still, BO should perhaps include a note saying this number should be a number their mail carrier can use to reach them during the day to schedule delivery if they are not home. Nighttime landlines are useless for this purpose.
