Using search terms in catalog - Dark Stone Gray Cylinder 2 x 2 x 2
I would expect to have returned :-
this :-
http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-brick-round-2-x-2-x-2-with-bottom-axle-holder-x-shape-orientation-30361
this :-
http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-brick-round-2-x-2-x-2-with-bottom-axle-holder-x-shape-x-orientation-30361
or this :-
http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-cylinder-2-x-2-x-2-robot-body-undetermined
Instead I get just about every item in the catalog :-
http://www.brickowl.com/search/catalog?query=Dark+Stone+Gray+Cylinder+2+x+2+x+2
If I search "Dark Stone Gray Cylinder 2 x 2 x 2" (with parenthesis) I get ZERO results
How do you search the catalog for specific items?
Or what am I not doing/doing wrong?
Thanks!

Hi Graham,
I ran into this yesterday myself and was thinking of saying something.
Leave the colours (or most of them) off the start, it finds many less items on search.
If this did not happen, colour names had less priority, I have no idea how it works, it may help when people search with the colour before the part.

Leave the color off and it should help

The thing I find is that the more detail you include in search - the more returns you get…
which seems backwards - I would prefer to put more details in to refine the search NOT expand it
without knowing "how it works" - can you shed some light on that perhaps?

for example craigslist use the | symbol to perform multi variables search,
the + (usually a default with a space) will give only results containg both (or more) parameters
What seems to happening here is that the + actually means "or" rather than "contains both (or more)"
is it a logic setting set wrong - ("or" rather than "and")?
I know nothing about web database functions, so please excuse my ignorance if it be so...

Generally speaking, returning more results shouldn't be an issue, if the results are all properly sorted by how well they match the search query.

I followed Admin's response it does seem leaving off the color works **better**
it works even better using parentheses - is that the only way?
Seems that " " forces search of exact phrase, so if you search "1x12 brick" you get no results
If it's me please let me know how to search "better"
I am used to more key words = less and/or better results
Thanks!
