Search by image

We have added an experimental search by image option on the homepage under 'Looking for a replacement part?'. This is using the brickognize tool. You should be able to use it with a phone, and easily upload an image from your camera. I'd be interested to hear any feedback on this.

  • just tried it and works as in brickstore. Would it be possible you can search with your (mobile) camera instead of adding a file ?
  • You can use your phone if you access the website on your phone, but not using your phone as a sort of remote camera
  • It works well but would be nice if it is possible to get boid number as it seems to only give bl id
  • Are you using the tool on Brick Owl?
  • Seems to work ok, but I've just tried it on a lattice fence which it gave as the first match, along with a lattice window and the shorter lattice fence (both understandable possibilities), but somewhat mystified as to the twenty or so other suggestions. None of these were fences - mostly curved panels and tiles which bear no physical resemblance to the part. I assume this is to do with how brickognize is configured, but find it amusing that it should simultaneously get it so right and so wrong.

I didn't pay much attention to the three numbers that were displayed, so it's possible these formed part of the design IDs or BOIDs and that's why they were returned as results.
  • Yes the issue you describe is more to do with the lazy way we have integrated it into our search. We only take the top 3 IDs from brickognize. If this feature ends up being used we will spend more time on refining it.
  • OK, just worked out what's happened. So, the three part numbers for the three lattice parts also correspond to set numbers. 3185 and 3186 are both Friends sets, so it pulls up the stickered parts from these as well. The part number for the lattice window doesn't correspond with a set number, so nothing else appears for this one. Is this something we have to live with or can the integration be tweaked to only look for design IDs?
  • @Lawrence i have been using both. Is it possible to have it in the drop down menu on the store page. Rather than having to go to the website home page.
  • @Lawrence this item comes up with error no item found. I have found it the old fashion way. Just thought you should know.
  • I was just coming on the forum to request this feature. Is it available in the whitelabel as well? I only see it on the homepage.
    Brickognize is awesome!
  • Set/minifig/part differentiation isnt available. I searched with a photo of a minifig and it only displayed 2 results - torso and legs.
Works fine with parts, though showing several more results would be better in my opinion.
  • Yes it is a great tool. Sadly it does have some issues. Have now had 6 items it can’t find that are in the catalogue. Also it can be slow at times. Would be nice if it was in the drop down bar when in my store
  • @Lawrence - will the feature be available on whitelabel? Our customers will love it. Just needs a bit of tweaking.
  • It’s not on white label. I’ve moved this thread to suggestions, so we can consider this and the other comments in the future.
  • Having an icon of a photo camera next to the top search would be nice for this feaure

I did originally think of that, but I don't think it would be right to make it so prominent, compared to how much the normal search is used. I'm thinking maybe putting it in the search dropdown, but it doesnt quite work there either.

I've now put this into the search dropdown for the catalog and non-whitelabel stores
  • @Lawrence wtg so much easier to use now.
  • @Lawrence Awesome! Will it be coming to whitelabel pages as well soon? :)
