Mattel buys Mega Blocks company

Just learned that the toy company Mattel is buying Mega blocks to try and get a piece of the LEGO pie.

Interesting to see what happens.

Sound off!

  • TLG shoulda bought Mega and converted their operations to LEGO. Spin off the puzzles and art supplies to someone else.
  • Perfect bedfellows!

The two "toy"companies responsible for the major influx of cheap asian (mostly chinese) knock off junk, they will continue with steady sales due to being "less expensive".

The loser, as always, the consumer when little Joe outgrows his construction toys and finds that the only 2 places to send his building blocks is a charity/thrift shop or the dump.

Then realises "if only I had settled for less, but with quality…"

As far as TLG go, I imagine they are happy enough - they get the "toy of the year/decade/century" awards after all… MB not even an "also ran"

  • as much as i hate megablocks , they do have some very good product licences , but then lego would never make cod nazi zombies .
  • I have to disagree with some of this. Mattel puts out some quality items, action figures, diecast cars, etc... If that quality caries over to the Mega Brands portion it cant hurt the product only help it. It will be interesting to see what comes of it for sure.

  • The same company making Hot Wheels and Building Bricks? should be fun to see where this goes.
  • hmmm - I have some hot wheels - pre "proudly" made in china days - Mattel = 0 quality nowadays
