There was some sort of networking issue with the firewall, resetting it solved the issue. Unfortunately this happened just after I was doing some work on my house, and I didn't have my phone on me to see the hundreds of notifications. I'll be keeping my phone on me from now on.

These things always happen at moments you are not close to a phone or computer. Being in IT for 20 years I can tell stories about that.
