Color IDs and Updates

Please consider renaming Trans-Black to Trans-Brown. LEGO will be introducing a new color to replace the current Transparent Brown in May. It is called 375 Transparent Black.

Please consider moving Medium Reddish Violet back to Medium Dark Pink. All of its unique element IDs are already there. There is a ton of overlap between it and the color that replaced it, so it would help to differentiate the two. A new color for LEGO’s 16 Pink would also be needed, as it is very different and is a possible predecessor to the 1994 Belville Medium Reddish Violet. These colors are a bit of a mess here.

Please update BrickLink’s reference to Metallic Black. It is called Pearl Black over there.

Please add ID 176 to FLIP/FLOP RED.

Please add ID 178 to YELLOW FLIP/FLOP.

Please add ID 179 to SILVER FLIP/FLOP.

Please add ID 305 and name “WARM GOLD, DIFFUSE” to Speckle Black Gold.

Please add ID 362 to TR. BLUE OPAL. (Light Blue)

Please add ID 366 to Tr.Blue Opal. (Dark Blue)

That should be all!

  • Peeron also has references for these colors:

    176 is under FFRed.
    178 is under FFYellow.
    179 is also under PearlSilver.

All that’s left to add here from Peeron are individual colors for 158 Transparent Fluorescent Red and 295 Flamingo Pink, which they do recognize.

  • Thank you for that, we have made some of those changes. With regards to renaming transparent black/transparent brown etc, I think we will wait until we see the new colour information to decide what to do. Renaming long established color names can be very disruptive so we would want to avoid that.

With regards to "Please consider moving Medium Reddish Violet back to Medium Dark Pink. All of its unique element IDs are already there. Could you expand on what you mean a bit more? Was this something that I previously merged two similar colors into one?

Could you expand on "All that’s left to add here from Peeron are individual colors for 158 Transparent Fluorescent Red and 295 Flamingo Pink, which they do recognize."
  • Thank you for making these changes! Looks like the Peeron references are still incorrect, however. The Bionicle color numbers should be “FFRed”, “FFYellow”, and “PearlSilver”.

Previously, Medium Dark Pink on BrickOwl contained LEGO’s 22 Medium Reddish Violet, which is no longer used. Various sites do not separate this and its modern replacement because the difference between the two colors isn’t very noticeable, but they’re still somewhat different and should not be conflated. Clicking on “Medium Dark Pink” will lead users to pages that contain IDs for parts in 22 Medium Reddish Violet. However, BrickOwl’s color page shows Medium Dark Pink as correlating to “Pink”, which is LEGO’s 16, also retired.

My suggestion here involves moving the 22 Medium Reddish Violet color page reference back to Medium Dark Pink. Rebrickable’s Medium Dark Pink used to match BrickOwl’s until the two colors were mislabeled here. BrickLink’s Medium Dark Pink still correlates to 16 Pink, but this color doesn’t have a direct reference here anymore.

    To clarify:
Move the 22 Medium Reddish Violet reference back to Medium Dark Pink, so all IDs associated with that color remain under Medium Dark Pink. Unlike other instances of colors being merged, this color’s Element IDs did not move, which did happen when the Light Oranges were merged (a change that resulted in some IDs being lost). I have extensive knowledge of this color and its appearances, so I can make edits wherever needed.

Dark Pink will still belong to the modern 221 Bright Purple.

Remove “Pink” “9” from Medium Dark Pink and create a new color for it titled “Duplo Rose” with ID “16” and LEGO name “Pink”.

Do not edit BrickOwl “Pink”/LEGO 9 Light Reddish Violet. That color is correct.

As for 158 Transparent Fluorescent Red and 295 Flamingo Pink, the former is known to exist in at least one part, while the latter comes in four. Peeron recognizes 158 as “Trans-Salmon” and 295 as “PinkRed”.

32554 - 4143787 is color 158 Transparent Fluorescent Red. It could be called “Trans-Neon Red” here, as it is noticeably fluorescent.

    54254 - 4278579 is color 295 Flamingo Pink.
53657 - 4275200 is color 295 Flamingo Pink. (This has a printed variant)
This color also comes in another printed piece that does not have an Element ID here (51677, which probably also has an unprinted ID). This color exists under Bright Pink, but it is far from Bright Pink. It could be called “Neon Pink/Clikits Neon Pink”, as its vibrancy matches that of modern colors that use the “vibrant” moniker.

Please also remove 263 from Light Flesh. 263 is still an unknown color ID.

That should result in complete parity with Peeron. Having one-off color references here is useful because an algorithm here finds Element IDs in the LEGO parts database, which is useful to part collectors and color enthusiasts. :)

    Thank you!
