Payment Type Designation

Lawrence,
Could we please have a Payment type designation on the orders page? A 'S' for Stripe and a 'P' for Paypal would be great. This would make it really easy to find the orders I need to go into, once the order ships, to do the refund for the Stripe order. Right now I have to go through and open all of them to find it among those that paid using Payal. With the 'S' or 'P' I can pull up only the one order needing me to do this manually in Stripe.
Thanks
Melissa

  • I'm afraid I don't follow, could you expand more on what you would use this for?
  • When you need to do a Stripe refund, you have to wait until the order ships so the payment is Captured. After it ships and the payment is captured, you can then do the refund. You can't do the refund when you issue it in Brick Owl, you have to wait.

When the orders ship and all payments are captured I have to find the order that is a Stripe order to manually issue the refund in Stripe. To find it I have to look at every order that had a refund. Paypal is done automatically and Stripe is not. If the 'S' was there on the order line and there is a total in brackets () designating a refund happened; I can ignore the 'P' refunds and quickly locate the 'S' paid order to do the refund.

I hope I explained this properly and clearly. I often have shipping refunds on my international orders since it is cheaper to ship than what was quoted than the actual cost. Mostly because the order could be packaged into a smaller mailer. I don't want to miss any.

  • Oh I see now. Would this suggestion no longer be needed if I made the Stripe refunds automatic too? I have been intending to do it for a while, there's been a recent spate of issues I've had to deal with.
  • I need it now, but if the refunds become automated it will no longer be necessary.

  • @Johnsma2000 I periodically log into my stripe account and capture the payments myself. This way I am not waiting as long to actually receive the funds. Just note when you click "shipped" BrickOwl will display an error that it could not capture the payment, which is normal since you already captured it, no big deal.

  • If I have to do a refund through stripes I will log into stripes, capture the payment then do the refund. Easy.

  • A non related question, is stripe that popular there? (number of orders).

I never heard of it until now.
  • Regardless, being able to see at a glance how orders have been paid for would be handy. And maybe even sort by payment type.

I don't know how popular Stripe is but I've never heard of it before BrickOwl. I couldn't tell you off hand what percentage of my orders are via Stripe because the process is currently too tedious. :-D

  • I never heard of it until BrickOwl started using it. I did some research on it before I willingly gave them my bank account info, and they are a nice sized company and only 3years old (ran by brothers ages 25 and 23)

They recently reported an evaluation of $1.75billion USD
  • You are not supposed to capture payment until you ship the order. So, I wait until I ship before issuing the refund in Stripe.
I would prefer to not capture payment before shipping the order and issuing the refund.
