Correct way to create minidoll catalog item with all components

Heyhey
I am currently learning as much as I can about Brickowl and what better way to do so than to add missing pictures, ids, items and so on.
I have synced my inventory over from Bricklink and as you all know, some items are missing from the BO catalog.
Two of these items were both minidolls from Friends Set 41378.
So I went to both minidolls data and added the BLID (frnd321 & frnd322)
While Stephanie got accepted, Kacey did not.
I understand why Kacey got declined. It's because the inventory of the Kacey minidoll here on Brickowl does not match the Kacey inventory from Bricklink. (The black flippers are missing)

Now I have a bunch of questions regarding this:
1. How do I create the 'correct' Kacey Minidoll inventory so that it looks the same as the Stephanie inventory. Are these exploded drawing crated automatically?
2. Why is this 'wrong' Kacey inventory even created / accepted in the first place?
3. What happens to the old Kacey if my new Kacey would be accepted? It should be deleted, right? Who is responsible?

I know this question is bit petty but as I said, understanding brickowls way of doings things is my goal here.

  • 1. In this case you would need to edit the inventory (click the Inventory tab and then 'edit the inventory') to remove the doll and add the component parts back. Leave a note explaining what you're doing. Once that change is accepted, you can then create the minifigure from the Inventory tab. The exploded image for the new doll will be created automatically after a few days.

    2. Human error probably.

    3. You should edit the minidoll entry (Edit tab, then 'Other' then 'schedule for deletion') - leave a note.

It's not petty at all. Correcting a mistake you've noticed is the right thing to do.
  • Minidolls are handled different here, @Lawrence would be the best to reply this, but it is something about having them only with minifig parts and without accesories, because that created so many similar ones.
  • The issue is BL lists the minidoll with the flower or hat and BO does not. Most will not match. This may have been an issue in early Friends releases, but is it still? Anyone that collects a lot of Friends care to comment on different figures and how common they are with the same outfit but different accessory attached to their head.
  • Neehe, I totally applaud that you're working on improving the catalog! That is awesome! You'll also get points here for that, which you can later "cash in" for prizes such as being featured on the home page, actual LEGO set, etc.

I believe most current LEGO sets and minifigure inventories are actually imported straight from LEGO via an API. Or Brickset. But those do come in erroneous on occasion and we have to fix them... I would caution though treating BL as an authoritative source to compare to. They get the same data BO does... and they have hard-working humans working on catalogs there too which could make errors.

I learned that trying to mod the catalog here based on a BL inventory (it was appropriately rejected), and learned through that rejection that the BL inventory was wrong. ;-)
  • First of all thanks for all your answers.
Yes I do understand that BL is not necessarily an authorative source, that's why I double quoted the words correct and wrong in my post.
Who then is the authorative source that determines if the Kacey minidoll is wearing black flippers or not? Stephanie from set 41378 has them (like bricklink), Kacey does not. Who says whats right?
  • I think this throws up more questions than it answers! My inclination would be to go with what the instructions say, but often times these will include accessories. So, a Classic Spaceman will have air tanks as part of its breakdown (see the instructions for 6952 as an example), so if this logic is followed then whatever Kacey and Stephanie have in the instructions should be part of the Minifigure/Minidoll. Alternatively it may be that the info provided by LEGO is based on the inventory of the set, and as such the consideration of resellers here or on BL over what is 'correct' is of little interest to them!

There are some exceptions regarding accessories. We have a few Stephany minidolls (1041639) from the Dolphine Rescue Mission set (41378) which used to come without any accessory. A week ago or so its inventory changed to include a pair of flippers. Nevertheless, there is an identical Stephany without flippers (935034) which – according to the catalog – doesn't come in any set.
