Naming of Subsets

I think we need a naming convention for subsets.
For example see: http://brickowl.com/search/catalog?query=7958
The sets are all named with "Star Wars Advent Calendar Set 7958 Subset", except one which is called "Star Wars Advent Calendar Day 22 - A-Wing Fighter Set 7958 Subset".

I plan to create all subset pictures as a 3D-Rendering with LDD and POVRay (Example: http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-star-wars-advent-calendar-set-7958-subset-912276) , but need to know the matching names if no picture is available.

It would be helpful, if I could name all subsets before submitting the pictures.
What would be the best way of naming them?

My idea: "Star Wars Advent Calender 2011 Set 7958 - Subset Day 22 A-Wing Fighter"

  • I have been playing with POV-Ray myself. Small thing in the long run, I think the pics would look better without the shadows.

Other than that personal remark, great work! Thanks.

Are you using the LDD to POV-Ray converter?
  • I haven't yet finalised the code for the naming of subsets, I will do though.

    Yes, I'm using the converter.
The first pics I made had 3 light sources. Today I will reduce it to one. Maybe it looks better then.

  • I've updated the catalogue edit form for subsets and sorted out the name formatting. You can see an example here http://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-star-wars-advent-calendar-set-7958-subset-day-22-a-wing-fighter

In the name field, you just enter the name of the subset, and nothing else. It will automatically get stuck onto the name of the set. I can then change the formatting and layout of the name at a later point if I wish.

If you did not know, you can turn the shadows off manually while keeping all the light sources. I have found this to be the easiest way to get all parts lit well without loosing detail anywhere. A bit cleaner look for parts or tiny sets I think.
