Hi there
I'm new to this forum, and fairly new to the Xmas Village ... I have just found a new 10254 Winter Holiday Train. I'd like it to run - but : Problem : Power Functions are retired! The set recommended 8879 8884 88000 88002 .
I tried Lego but they don't retroadvise ... sad but fair enough seeing their turnover of models.
Anyone know if the new power functions can be fitted (fairly easily) instead ?
thanks
Nic

The new power functions (Powered Up or PU) should be easier to fit, since you don't need the IR receiver in the conductor cabin. The PU train motor has the same dimensions as the older PF motor and the PU Hub (battery + receiver) has the same dimensions as the older PF battery box.
In the instructions for preparing the train you can skip demolition steps 1, 2 and 3. For the instructions of fitting the motor, you skip steps 7 - 10 and in step 11 you directly connect the motor to the hub.
Setnumbers are:
88011 (Train motor, wheels and axles)
88009 (Hub / Battery box)
optional 88010 (Remote Control), but you can control the hub and trainmotor just with the app on your smartphone).
Or you can buy the parts here on BrickOwl:

If you go to my store (https://nelissolistoys.brickowl.com), I have all parts in stock at the moment. But you might get it with cheaper shipping from a local BrickOwl seller.

It is entirely possible that I'm completely missing the point here, but all of those items you listed, 8879 8884 88000 88002, are still available here on BO and presumably on other sites as well.
Apologies in advance if I've got the wrong end of the stick.
Mrs Swoop - I was looking at Lego's own site, and saw the old ones had been retired, so thought it would be better to go with the latest tech - certainly sounds better to go with the new bluetooth option if possible!
