Why not to use the 3 studs wide dish at the ends and the central part with a mix of slopes built sideways. This would mean, thaat at the top and at the bottom there would we studs and stud holders, but... It is something... I'll make a quick example and post a picture of it in a second.
All I could think of is a 2x2 dish connected to a 2x2 round brick and ending with a second 2x2 dish (for three studs in width)... but then you have no way to connect it that I could think of. :-(
Actually wait, make the 2x2 round brick the one with a hole in the side, so one side can attach with a pin, then cover the second hole with a 1x1 round plate as a "gas cap" or a hose.
