I have a customer that ordered 2 new 58118 cables. I shipped the buyer two of set 8871. the buyer then sent me a message that i sent them the wrong item. Am I wrong did i send them the wrong item?

Buyer
Hello, I received the order today but it is wrong.
I had ordered two LEGO Dark Stone Gray Ext Func Wire 50 Inches. (58118) but you have sent to me two lego (8871).
I can not use them, how can you solve?
Seller(Me)
it is the same thing. part 58118 comes in set 8871.
Buyer
Thanks for the reply.
But Lego (8871) are not the same thing as "Stone Gray Ext Func Wire 50 cm (58118)", as you can see from the photos on the site brickowl.com.
Even doing research on the site brickowl.com the two products are different.
Those who serve me and that I have ordered are 2 "Stone Gray Ext Func Wire 50 cm (58118)" :

If you follow the link for set 8871 on brickowl at http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-extension-cable-50cm-set-8871 it has the link to view the inventory for the set. the link to view the inventory it as http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-extension-cable-50cm-set-8871/inventory, when i click on the link for the inventory it clearly shows me the 58118, http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-func-ext-wire-50-cm-58118. it is the only item in the inventory as the set 8871 is the same as 58118

when i do the reverse look up to see which sets the item 58118 comes in using the comes in link http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-func-ext-wire-50-cm-58118/comesin it shows me it comes in 3 sets. it comes in 4999, it comes in 8871 and it comes in 9688.

I am not sure how your research came up showing that they are different. All 8871 are 58118 but not all 58118 are 8871 as they can be from set 4999 or 9688.
Buyer(I could not understand this response)
Is the attached photo at the link http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-dark-stone-gray-func-ext-wire-50-cm-58118 that is wrong. Infact it is not the same cable that you see in the photo at the link http://brickowl.com/catalog/lego-extension-cable-50cm-set-8871.The cable which served to me is what's in the box Lego 8480 Space Shuttle.

any suggestions or thoughts on how i can convince the buyer? or did i actually send the wrong item and the catalog is messed up.

thanks,
dave

  • First guess is the way the cable is an adapter to the older 9 volt system as well, this may be confusing them.

You could ask if they try "backwards" of the way they are now, or making sure they use only the "top" of one of the connector ends for power functions items.

The pictures and links are all correct. I have sold many under these listings without issue, I list under the part and send the set.

  • This part should have the number on it like most Lego pieces do. You might verify this if you have an extra, and then ask the buyer to look for this number on the underside of the plate. 58118 should be printed on the underside.
I did this once when a buyer said I sent the wrong piece, and it turned out they were thinking it was a different piece--saved them time ordering the same wrong part twice, and saved me having to correct a mistake I did not make.

Unfortunately as with most of the modern electronic assemblies, this one included, there is no part number anywhere. Or if there is one on something it could be one of the composite parts rather than the element as a whole.

Good advice for most parts no doubt.

  • I would just reply that #58118 is the official LEGO part number of what you supplied, and that the part was sold as a stand-alone item in retail stores as set number #8871.

The following link confirms that set #8871 contained just one part, the #58118 as you supplied.
