Emptying shopping carts

Is there away to empty shopping carts? Or is it just a case of waiting for a week.

I personally think people holding items for a week with no intention of buying is just stopping others who actually want to buy the item.

Thank you for a quick response. I just remember when I was ordering putting some items from another store in my basket that there stock count went down.

Maybe someone bought the same pieces as I was creating my order
