PayPal Customer Protection fee - 2 options to add

Hello,

for some private sellers this might be an option to solve some troubles with payments and fees.

Would it be doable to add 2 options for sellers:

1st: at the checkout process after selecting PayPal a "THIS or THAT" option: PayPal Friends OR Paypal with Customer Protection
- whatever is selected the fee is ZERO or calculated by actuall protection fee (3,4% + 0,35 €)

2nd: in your payment settings you can check if you are only selling with byers protection (or both Friens and protecton) and add the calculated fee at the end automatically - also make it visible as an extra position in the summary - even the ZERO for friends should be stated at the end, to make it visible its no protection included.

The fee has to be calculated from the Total price (including Shipping)

I hope you understand what I mean with this and what do you think about such an option?

best regards,

Gunny

  • No to both, as both are against the terms of PayPal.
  • And the laws of many European countries...
  • Alright, both comments are smashing :)

Could you bring a bit more light into this, in a short explaination please.
  • PayPal do not allow Austrian users of their service to pass on the PayPal fees to customers, regardless whether Austrian law allows it.

In PayPal's Austrian terms: "You shall not surcharge for the use of the PayPal Services."

By using PayPal you are agreeing to that term.

Your proposal effectively transfers the risk of the transaction from you to the buyer, with the reason being that you're a private seller, which actually has no legal bearing on the issue at all. If you are selling your private goods to another individual, it's perfectly legitimate to say "buyer beware" but you still have to fulfil the contract of sale, which requires you to ensure that what they bought reaches them in the condition you stated. PayPal's Buyer Protection is simply giving your buyer an easy way to seek redress when needed.
  • Thank you, that helped me a lot to understand.

That suggestion is to be deleted, please.
