How to add description of item to display in catalog

I noticed that when items for sale are listed, that in the name column some of the items have descriptions in black under the blue hyperlinked name, while others don't (see screenshot below). At first I thought the the description came from the Public Note field, but I have items with text in the Public Note field and it doesn't show up the the listing. Where do I enter text so it that will be displayed in under the item name?

That should show text from your public note field (I have never seen that not work), that is odd... can you add a pic of an example item where you have a public note but the catalog view isn't showing it maybe?

Just to be clear, if we are adding a Public Note even after first adding the item, we need to select the bottom “Submit”, right, for any changes?

If you take a look in your various store settings options, I believe there is one to disable the showing of public notes

Thanks again Russell. I found it under Inventory settings. The box was checked, but I don't remember ever seeing this or checking it (but you know how memory can be). Do you know what the default setting is? Once I unchecked it, the Public Notes were displayed as desired.
