Lego Minifigures, where to buy?

I have started to like Lego's line of minifigures recently. I am wondering if it is possible to buy just the minifigures like Iron Man, Captain America–nothing else. Just the minifigures.

I have visited The Lego store in BGC and I was told that you really have to buy the set. I am really into the minifigures recently and I really want the genuine legos only.

You'll find plenty of us that stock just the minifigures from sets, @CharlotteP - @Pikka got you going in the best way possible! :-) (you can filter that link to Marvel, for example, using the Themes option on the left of your screen).

"The Hidden Menu" - In case a LEGO store is open near you and it seems you are visiting one, the staff have a minifig attached to their nametag. You can at anytime "trade" a minifig you have brought for one you see attatched on their tag...
