Very large orders for quotes that don't buy. Why?

Hello Everyone,

Why do some buyer put together extremely large orders, then request a quote on shipping. Then they do not buy but leave their cart open. Are they using this order for tracking inventory? It has happened three times in joining Owl in August. I assume there is a strategy here, not just window shopping. Anyone have any insight to share.

Thanks.

  • Could be a wishlist order which they decide not to go ahead with due to prohibitive shipping costs, not necessarily from your store but for their overall project.
  • I've had a handful of quotes (generally only for big orders or for rarer things going overseas) and only a couple have become orders. I can only speculate that either my shipping quote scares them off (I would give them a quote with tracking because of value/rarity) or they are hoping that I might ship for nothing!
